CAO 95.55 – 45 knot stall speed summary of consultation published

Date published: 19 May 2022

In March and April we sought feedback on the proposed amendments to CAO 95.55 regarding the removal of the 45 knot stall speed limit for certain sport and recreation aeroplanes.

We asked if the removal of the 45-knot stall speed limit for lightweight aeroplanes would, in relation to the operation of these aeroplanes under Approved Self-administering Aviation Organisation (ASAO) administration, maintain an acceptable level of aviation safety.

The consultation has closed, and we have published a summary of consultation.

We are moving to deliver on this initiative – aimed at increasing sport and recreational opportunities – as part of our general aviation workplan being rolled out this year and next.

We will amend CAO 95.55 to remove the stall speed limit for lightweight aeroplanes that can be administered by an ASAO by 30 June 2022.

Thank you to the many highly qualified people and organisations contributing their time and thought to this consultation. The feedback provided is beneficial to the effectiveness of our consultation process.
