The Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Communications appoints the CASA Board and provides the Board with a Statement of Expectations.
The Board is responsible for deciding the objectives, strategies and policies to be followed by CASA and for making sure that CASA performs its functions in a proper, efficient and effective manner.
The Chief Executive Officer and Director of Aviation Safety manages CASA subject to the directions and policies set by the Board.
Delegates and authorised persons
Under the Civil Aviation Regulations 1988 and the Civil Aviation Safety Regulations 1998, CASA may delegate some of its regulatory powers or authorise others to perform specific tasks or functions on its behalf.
For powers that can be delegated, the Director may delegate them to anyone, including a person who is not employed by CASA.
The Director, or his delegate may appoint a person, (including a person who is not employed by CASA), to be an authorised person.
