Team leader technical operations
I'm the team leader of technical operations with over 20 years of industry experience in a variety of roles and I get to use that knowledge and experience at work every day. My role isn't just a technical role - perhaps the biggest focus is on strong people leadership. I guide and support my team to meet CASA's aims and objectives as well as their own goals and it's enormously rewarding.
Technical operations is a cohort of three distinct yet related disciplines being cabin safety, dangerous goods and ground operations. The technical operations team is a national resource with inspectors spread out across Australia.
The workload the three teams get through is significant, I never have time to be bored and neither does the team. We're a highly engaged group who work by the principle that to improve aviation safety we have to do it in partnership with industry—neither one of us can do it without the support of the other.
Variety, hard work and job satisfaction are the things I most associate with my job.
I get to work with three different specialty areas, each one is unique with their own set of challenges and rewards, and I get to work with some of the best and brightest inspectors and industry stakeholders - you learn something new from someone every day.
