North Queensland region - operations division, Cairns
I joined CASA as a project manager in July 2007, having previously worked in private industry as a product developer, after achieving a degree in industrial design. As a CASA project manager I led a number of large diverse regulatory service projects, and internal business improvement initiatives. The rapidly changing world of aviation is fascinating - bursting with passionate individuals - and critically important to various stakeholders for a multitude of reasons. Working within a regulatory body brings with it certain challenges, and at times sensitive interaction - the service CASA provides and the importance of the duties with which it is charged with are 'real'. Working at CASA provides a tremendous sense of purpose.
In learning the business, CASA supported my studies in aviation management, which led to greater opportunities within the organisation, and my eventual appointment as regional manager for North Queensland, within operations division. I am responsible for two offices and an area that spans a large portion of the state. An assorted mix of complex aviation activity and frontline interaction with industry ensures ongoing job variety. Exposure to entry control, surveillance, and when necessary, enforcement action, ensures no day is the same. My position incorporates relationship building set within a legalistic environment.
More recently, CASA has again supported my personal development and study in organisational development and human behaviour. These skills are deployed on a daily basis and I find my work hugely rewarding. CASA has, and continues to provide me with opportunity and encouragement. I have no hesitation in recommending CASA as an employer of choice, and organisation that offers a career rather than simply a job.
