Certificate team manager
Operations - central region - Darwin
I became an avionics licensed aircraft maintenance engineer (LAME) because I wanted a career that would be rewarding, diverse, provide me with a good income and have positive career prospects - I joined CASA for the same reasons.
I began my career as an airworthiness inspector in 2009 which I enjoyed because it allowed me to remain intricately involved in aviation but from a different angle. I began to understand why there were certain rules that had to be followed and why they were developed. Participating in scheduled surveillance events ensured I still got to be around aircraft, hangars and engineers without participating in the maintenance itself.
I've since progressed my career to become a certificate team manager where I lead a team of inspectors of different disciplines to ensure the safety oversight of airworthiness and flying operations organisations in our region is maintained. The requirement to become competent in both airworthiness and flying operations disciplines is challenging but brings a great deal of variety to my role.
I enjoy working for CASA because there's a wealth of knowledge and experience in the people who work in all areas of the organisation that I can tap into when I need to. The people I work with are passionate about aviation safety and truly believe in what CASA is trying to achieve. There are pressures as with all jobs, but there is also friendly banter and a strong sense of camaraderie, particularly up here in the north.
I have also continued studying and am completing a bachelor of aviation management which has been sponsored by CASA. They have provided me with an opportunity to further my studies and to gain greater knowledge in an area that I had not previously experienced. This has helped me enormously in my current role.
If you are looking for a career where you get to see a holistic view of your industry, experience challenges, grow as a person and as a professional and have an opportunity to make a difference to safety standards, then consider joining the inspectorate team in CASA.
