Safety Management Systems

Safety management training resources

Proposed legislation concerning the training requirements for Safety Officers is contained in CASR119 and will require them to have completed a training course acceptable to CASA or A MINIMUM OF 2 years experience in safety management, OH&S or quality assurance. The proposed Advisory Circular AC 119-165 provides additional information

Safety management training is a new area of training for aviation. The training must encompass safety management, occupational health and safety and quality management with the primary focus on aviation and organisational management.

Universities and TAFEs throughout Australia run formal recognised training in these areas.

Other training organisations exist. Check to see if the TRAINING institution is accredited. This can be done by checking the list of accredited training providers with the Australian National Training Authority (ANTA) office in your state or territory.

There are also many consultants that provide training in these areas. It is important that you are discerning in your choice. Ensure they describe and apply the principles of safety management systems to the aviation operating environment.
