Setting your own standards
A kit for aviation organisations who want their members
and students to fly safer.
Flying schools and aero clubs are encouraged to use the material in this kit to run seminars to introduce pilots to the concept of Personal Minimums.
This training program deals with establishing personal minimums and recording them in a checklist format. In addition to personal minimums such as ceiling and visibility requirements for VFR or IFR flight, the checklist includes a number of other factors that together form a personalized standard operating procedure for an individual pilot.
The checklist is designed to be used primarily during flight planning. Research has shown that problems that arise during flight are often due to the decisions made before the flight began.
The videotape uses a typical GA flight scenario to identify many of the potential risk factors associated with flight. It also provides a means for generating discussion of these risk factors and how to control them. The videotape is designed for structured seminars and is not suitable for use by itself.
The primary audiences are student pilots, recreational pilots, and noninstrument-rated private pilots but it will also benefit instrument-rated pilots and commercial pilots.
The kit contains:
- Instructor's notes
- 5 Overheads
- Video (28 minutes)
- CD-ROM
- Personal Minimums checklist
In order to run a successful seminar, you will also need:
- 2 copies of the Personal Minimums checklist for each participant
- 1 copy of the CD-ROM for each participant
