Aviation industry gets new voice in rule reform
The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Transport and Regional Services, John Anderson, today announced that a leading aviation industry figure, Mr Bruce Byron AM, has been appointed as a special adviser to the Civil Aviation Safety Authority on regulatory reform.
"Mr Byron will act as an advocate for the industry in the regulatory review process. He will actively seek comment from all sections of the industry on the proposals issued by CASA," Mr Anderson said.
"He will provide people in the aviation industry with a simple yet effective means of ensuring their views on regulatory change are heard by CASA at the highest levels.
"Mr Byron is well respected in the industry, and has wide experience in many facets of aviation. He is a former CASA Board member, and a former executive general manager of Kendell Airlines. He will play an impartial role in the process by collecting feedback from the aviation community and ensuring CASA takes the ideas and comments into account as new safety regulations are developed.
"My initiative builds on Mr Byron's current role as chairman of the successful Aviation Safety Forum, a high-level industry consultative group that provides strategic advice to the CASA Board. It also supplements the work carried out by the Standards Consultative Committee, which is working under the chairmanship of Patrick Murray on the detail of new regulations.
"Mr Byron's new role as a special adviser to CASA will not replace any of the existing consultative processes but will enhance communications. For busy aviation industry people a simple phone call, fax, or email to Mr Byron will ensure comments on proposed regulations reach the appropriate people in CASA.
"With the sheer volume of material being issued in relation to the new regulations, it is important to make communications and feedback as easy as possible," Mr Anderson said.
