CASA Media Release - 5 August 1999
Review of selection process

The Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) Board has commissioned a review of the process undertaken in the selection for the position of Assistant Director Aviation Safety Compliance and in the ultimate selection of Mr Laurie Foley to that position.

Following statements in Parliament and media comment, the Board wished to ensure all the facts relating the selection of Mr Foley were accurately documented and properly considered.

It also wanted to ensure due process in accordance with corporate governance had in fact been followed.

The Board asked Mr Stephen Skehill to independently review the selection process and examine any pertinent corporate governance issues.

Mr Skehill has been asked to submit a full report on his review.

The report will be presented to the Board when it is completed.

It is hoped it will be available when the Board meets later this month.

The Minister for Transport and Regional Services has been informed about the review and has asked for a copy of Mr Skehill's report after it has been presented to the CASA Board.

The Board believes it is important for CASA to be open and honest in all its dealings internally, with the aviation industry and with the travelling public.

In the interests of justice for all, no further comment can or will be made until the Board has considered Mr Skehill's report.
