CASA denies closure of district offices

The Director of Aviation Safety, Mick Toller, today firmly denied misleading statements that Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) District Offices will be closed.

"I wrote to the Community and Public Sector Union (CPSU) on 24 July advising that many comments and suggestions regarding possible restructuring of CASA operations had been received from staff," Mr Toller said.

"We have written to staff who responded and their comments are now being considered. Staff had until 10 July to put forward their views."

Mr Toller said that a recommendation that the management proposal be passed to staff for their comments had been endorsed by the CASA Board in June.

"The Board certainly did not, as it has been claimed, endorse any proposal that CASA offices be closed," Mr Toller said.

"I want to assure all staff that no decision on the proposal will be made until the full consultative process is completed, and when a decision is made, staff will be advised before any public announcement is made."
