CASA Media Release - 22 December 1999
Aviation fuel warning

It has come to the attention of the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) today that some aviation fuel specifically Avgas 100 octane sold in Victoria in the past few weeks may be contaminated, posing a potential serious safety threat to piston-engine aircraft.

The relevant fuel companies are investigating this matter. CASA is seeking more information about the extent of the problem.

CASA is advising all aviation operators who have recently obtained Avgas 100 octane fuel in Victoria to consult with their fuel vendors and maintenance organisations' engineers before flying their aircraft.

There is no indication that fuel used by jet or turboprop aircraft is affected.
