CASA appoints Assistant Director Aviation Safety Standards

The Civil Aviation Safety Authority's (CASA) Director of Aviation Safety, Mick Toller, today announced the appointment of Richard Yates as Assistant Director Aviation Safety Standards.

"Richard will be responsible to me for the determination and administration of all aviation safety standards, including the current major review and rewrite of the regulations to modernise and harmonise them with other nations," Mr Toller said.

"He will also play a vital role in our ongoing consultation with industry to move CASA towards standards and procedures consistent with international best practice.

"I consider that this appointment, along with the other two Assistant Directors will provide me with the necessary executive support to position CASA as one of the leading countries of the world in aviation safety.

"I expect to be able to announce the appointment of the third Assistant Director, who will be responsible for Aviation Safety Promotion in the near future."

Mr Toller said that Mr Yates is recognised as an eminent person in his field and that he will bring to CASA a vast experience as Operations Director with the Joint Aviation Authorities (JAA) in Europe.

"As Richard is currently located with the JAA in Amsterdam, it will be 19 October before he is able to join CASA in Canberra," Mr Toller said.
