CASA to deliver better aviation services
The Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) is to create a new Regulatory Services Division to better meet the needs of the aviation industry.
CASA and its staff have recognised that the delivery of regulatory services has not been adequate after listening to the concerns of aviation organisations.
The Acting Director of Aviation Safety, Richard Yates, says the new division will allow CASA to properly balance the need to protect aviation safety while providing effective regulatory services to industry.
Mr Yates says the move is a win for aviation safety for all Australians and a win for all participants in the aviation industry.
"CASA has been listening to the aviation industry and we know there is a problem with the way in which we are currently delivering regulatory services," Mr Yates says.
"We will be allocating adequate resources to both safety compliance and enforcement as well as regulatory services to industry.
"This initiative is a refining of CASA's current restructuring that will ensure we will carry out all our functions in the best possible way.
"It is also a clear demonstration that CASA genuinely listens to the concerns of the aviation industry and responds in a timely and considered manner.
"I must also emphasise that the current problems in the delivery of regulatory services to the aviation industry are in no way a fault of CASA's staff - it is purely a result of organisational directions. CASA's staff are doing their jobs in a highly professional and effective manner."
The new Regulatory Services Division will be established by 1 November and will be headed by an Assistant Director.
The new division will look to the better use of industry delegates to assist CASA deliver regulatory services to meet the growing needs of the aviation industry.
Examples of regulatory services delivered by CASA to the aviation industry are the issuing of Air Operator's Certificates, approvals to aircraft modifications and approval for the addition of aircraft types to fleets.
