CASA Media Release - 15 November 1999
New CASA area office opens
The Civil Aviation Safety Authority's NSW Country Area office is officially open for business.
The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Transport and Regional Services, John Anderson, opened the office today.
CASA's NSW Country Area office is located in the general aviation precinct of Canberra International Airport.
Staff based at the office oversee the safety regulation of general aviation throughout the majority of regional NSW.
CASA's Director of Aviation Safety, Mick Toller, says the opening of the new office marks an important milestone in the restructuring of the Authority.
Mr Toller says CASA is strengthening its presence at major aviation centres such as Canberra.
"CASA is in the middle of a reorganisation of resources and in part that involves making sure we have our people in the right places," Mr Toller says.
"CASA people need to be based at major aviation centres such as Canberra so they can effectively keep a watch on safety and provide appropriate services to industry.
"We're pleased that the Canberra International Airport could offer a purpose-built office building on the edge of the airport in the general aviation area.
"That means CASA's staff are working right next to a wide range of other aviation professionals who meet the general aviation needs of the Canberra area and regional NSW.
"The NSW Country Area office, with its branch in Tamworth, can now effectively oversee general aviation safety throughout regional NSW."
CASA has six other Area Offices around Australia to regulate the safety of general aviation and has three offices covering the operations of airlines.
