2007 safety seminars for pilots

Pilots across six states are being urged to improve their safety knowledge and skills by attending special seminars during the first half of 2007.

CASA is holding a series of the very popular evening safety seminars at more than 30 aero clubs in cities and regional centres.

The safety seminars give pilots the chance to update their aviation knowledge in a range of key areas.

Topics to be covered include fuel management, operations in and around controlled airspace, pilot maintenance and visual flight rules operations into instrument meteorological conditions.

Two topics will be covered at each location, chosen in conjunction with the local aero club.

CASA’s new field safety advisors will make presentations, as well as facilitating discussions about local aviation safety issues.

A free barbeque will round off each evening.

Evening safety seminars will be held in Queensland, NSW, Victoria, Western Australia, Tasmania and the Northern Territory.  South Australia and the ACT hosted seminars in 2006.

The first seminars are being held in February, with the current program finishing in June.

CASA’s head of Safety Promotion, David Pattie, says pilots of all skill levels, ages and experience will benefit from the seminars.

“Our field safety advisors will deliver interesting, informative and lively presentations on safety issues every pilot needs to focus on,” Mr Pattie says.

“CASA thanks local aero clubs for playing a vital part in delivering these seminars.”
