CASA media release - Wednesday, 2 November 2005
Aircraft owners warned: Change your rego!

Aircraft owners are being warned to move quickly to change the registration of any aircraft still operating under the old registration rules.

All Australian aircraft must move across to the new Part 47 Civil Aviation Safety Regulations, which cover aircraft registration.

Despite the change-over starting a year ago, thousands of aircraft have not yet been moved across to Part 47.

Amendments to the new rules offer owners a fresh chance to switch to Part 47 without risking having their aircraft grounded.

The amendments mean aircraft registrations will not automatically lapse after 15 November this year - a provision of the original rules.

Instead aircraft owners will have at least another 90 days to fill out and submit to CASA the paperwork required for Part 47 registration.

But if owners fail to act in this time, CASA will have the power to suspend or cancel the registration of any aircraft still under the old registration rules where the owners fail to take the necessary action after a request from CASA.

CASA will write to owners who have not yet moved their aircraft to Part 47, with the 90 period for action starting from the time of the correspondence being sent.

As long as owners submit an application and provide required information within the 90 days, their aircraft will remain registered until CASA completes the process of the transfer to Part 47.
