Special aviation maintenance seminars
Special error management awareness seminars are being held for Australia’s aviation maintenance and engineering industry.
The seminars aim to prevent the risk of mistakes during routine aircraft maintenance activities.
A total of eight seminars are being held across the nation to inform maintenance and engineering managers and supervisors on ways to control error in their organisations.
The Civil Aviation Safety Authority is running the free seminars to improve the understanding of ‘human factors’ in aircraft maintenance and engineering.
Human factors training has become a cornerstone for improving safety in aviation.
The seminars focus on the identification of potential human mistakes, how to develop strategies to avoid these mistakes and how to continually review safety performance.
Mike Nendick, of CASA’s Aviation Safety Promotion branch, says the seminars have been welcomed by the maintenance and engineering industry.
“Places in the seminars filled very quickly as people are extremely keen to learn more about human factors in aviation maintenance activities,” Mr Nendick says.
“CASA is providing guidance to senior personnel in the aviation maintenance and engineering industry so they can develop human factors training for their own organisations.
“We will provide practical information and material that they can take back to their workplaces and use to implement solutions for reducing the risk of errors during aircraft maintenance.
“CASA believes in the promotion and education of human factors and error management concepts to improve safety.”
The two-day seminars are being held during August and September in Townsville, Perth, Brisbane, Bankstown, Wagga, Adelaide, Melbourne and Sydney. Additional seminars may be programmed in future depending on demand.
