Better air safety for Central West
Pilots in the Central West will be working to improve air safety at a special local aviation forum being held in Bathurst today.
The Civil Aviation Safety Authority and the Bathurst Aero Club are convening the free local aviation forum to look at a range of key safety issues.
Experts will make presentations on three issues which have been chosen as important to pilots in the Central West region.
They are local weather, fuel management and operations in and around controlled airspace.
A representative from the Bureau of Meteorology will provide a detailed analysis of local weather conditions that pilots must consider when flying, while an expert from CASA will look at pilot maintenance and controlled airspace.
The forum offers pilots the chance to improve their knowledge and skills, as well as to discuss and debate a range of safety issues.
CASA’s Peter Gibson says the forum is a great chance for everyone involved in aviation in the region to get together and learn.
“Education and training are keys to better air safety,” Mr Gibson says.
“This forum will help to improve air safety in Bathurst and the Central West region and that’s good news for pilots and passengers.
“The region has a good safety record but we need to continue to work to prevent accidents.”
The forum is being held at the Bathurst Aero Club at Bathurst Airport, starting at 6 pm on Wednesday August 3.
CASA is also hosting a free BBQ on the night for everyone who attends.
