Better air safety for Port Macquarie
Air safety on the Mid North Coast will be improved as a result of a series of special seminars being held in Port Macquarie next week.
Pilots, engineers and airline managers will come together to polish their aviation safety skills.
The Civil Aviation Safety Authority is hosting the three-day air safety summit, which will attract aviation people from throughout northern NSW.
Key safety issues will be in the spotlight - including local weather, aircraft maintenance, operations in controlled airspace, airspace changes, aircraft icing and fatigue.
The seminars are an important initiative to maintain and improve the region’s air safety record.
CASA spokesman Peter Gibson says NSW has nearly 30 per cent of Australia’s fatal general aviation accidents.
“Over a decade there were 58 fatal light aircraft crashes in NSW,” Mr Gibson says.
“Many of these accidents happened in regional areas, making these safety seminars very important.
“Pilots, engineers and airline managers must continue to learn and improve their skills, as the key to better air safety is better performance by people.
“This week’s seminars are an essential part of the ongoing national efforts by both CASA and the aviation industry to lift air safety to even higher standards.”
Seminars are targeted at private and commercial pilots, flying instructors and aircraft engineers.
A total of ten seminars will be held from Tuesday 14 June to Thursday 16 June.
The venue for all the seminars is: Port Pacific Resort, 6-14 Clarence St, Port Macquarie.
