New air safety campaign

A new national campaign to improve aviation safety has been launched by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority.

The campaign will lift safety management skills within the aviation industry - an initiative recognised as the next big step in cutting accidents and incidents.

CASA is holding a series of special seminars for aviation industry leaders to expand knowledge and understanding about safety management systems.

The campaign is aimed at large and small air operators, maintenance organisations and other aviation businesses.

It will equip aviation organisations with the skills needed to develop and introduce practical safety management systems.

CASA’s Director of Aviation Safety, Mick Toller, is urging people in the aviation industry to take part in the campaign.

“Australia has a great air safety record but we can only maintain our enviable position if everyone in aviation strives to do better,” Mr Toller says.

“That means finding new ways to improve safety and the efficient running of aviation businesses.

“Safety management systems can in fact do both by identifying risks and finding solutions. It is a proven approach that works for large and small aviation operations.

“While many air operators already have safety management systems, there are a lot more aviation businesses who must now adopt these techniques.

“This series of seminars offers the practical experience of Australian aviation experts who can show safety management systems deliver better safety and business outcomes.”

The seminars are being held in each mainland capital between 29 July and 8 August. Eleven leading Australian aviation figures will offer case studies and take part in interactive workshops.
