Australian aviation to take on the world
Australias aviation industry is set become more competitive in the international aviation market as a result of reforms to important regulations.
The Civil Aviation Safety Authority is overhauling regulations covering the aviation maintenance and manufacturing industries.
With the reforms due to be introduced early next year a national summit of aviation maintenance industry leaders gets underway in Melbourne tomorrow.
The summit gives the aviation maintenance industry an opportunity to fine-tune the new rules and prepare for the changes.
CASA wants to reduce aviation maintenance compliance costs, increase overseas acceptance of local aviation products, services and personnel, and bring Australias regulations into line with international requirements.
The new rules will allow Australian aviation maintenance businesses to compete effectively in the lucrative international market place.
The introduction of competency-based proficiencies and benchmarking will bring Australia to the forefront of global aviation maintenance personnel training.
The new rules introduce the capability to train, examine and issue technical aviation qualifications to internationally acceptable standards.
CASA will provide oversight for the new training rules by approving national standards, training courses and assessment standards.
Maintenance Conference 2002 brings together aviation maintenance managers and personnel, training organisations and staff, industry underwriters and a host of other aviation maintenance experts.
It is being held over four days at the Sofitel Hotel in Collins Street, Melbourne. More information can be found at the CASA website at http://www.casa.gov.au/seminars/
