CASA Media Release - Wednesday 24 April 2002
Albury air safety forum

Albury is to host a special three day air safety forum next week.

The Civil Aviation Safety Authority is holding a series of high-level air safety workshops for pilots, engineers, airline owners and managers in Albury next week.

Albury's aviation community will learn the latest on topics such as aircraft maintenance, safety management, understanding weather and pilot decision making.

A major focus will be on improving safety in small airlines operating in the Albury region.

A day-long workshop will teach airline owners and managers about safety management systems.

Safety management systems are used to reduce risk in airlines and improve overall performance.

While they have been used effectively in larger airlines, less information has been available for smaller operators on how safety management can be introduced and used effectively.

CASA has designed training and education material for smaller air operators to explain what safety management systems are as well as providing practical information and tools for everyday use.

CASA believes that safety management systems can reduce the risk of air accidents and cut the long term accident rate.

The air safety workshops begin on Monday 29 April and finish on Wednesday 1 May.

They are being held at the Commercial Club in Dean Street Albury. All workshops are free.

Everyone involved in Albury's aviation industry is urged to attend and can register by telephoning Rene Hindson on 131 757.
