The Civil Aviation Safety Authority has upgraded its presence in Townsville with the opening of a new purpose-built office complex.

The complex is located right on the Townsville Airport and houses CASA’s 19 locally based staff.

It is the headquarters for CASA’s North Queensland Area, which has an additional office in Cairns.

The new facility provides up-to-date facilities for staff who look after general aviation operations in North Queensland.

Flying Operations Inspectors, Airworthiness Inspectors and administrative staff work from the complex.

They oversee the safety of up to100 air operators and 70 maintenance organisations from just north of Rockhampton to the Torres Strait.

CASA’s Director of Aviation Safety, Mick Toller, says the new office recognises the importance of aviation in Townsville and the North Queensland region.

“CASA has expanded our staff in Townsville because of a growing workload from many sectors within general aviation,” Mr Toller says.

“Townsville is an important regional hub for aviation and CASA needs a strong presence to oversee safety and provide services.

“CASA is working hard to deliver services to the aviation industry as efficiently as possible and a strong local presence is one key to that goal.

“At the same time CASA’s inspectors are actively checking both air operators and maintenance organisations to make sure safety standards remain high.”
