CASA Media Release - Friday, 19 October 2001
Solomon Airlines suspended

Solomon Airlines Limited has been suspended from operations while the Civil Aviation Safety Authority completes an investigation of safety breaches.

CASA has found a range of safety problems with the operations of Solomon Airlines which could place at risk the safe operations of passenger carrying flights.

The suspension follows the issuing of a Show Cause notice in August 2001 and a subsequent audit.

Undertakings for improvements to the operations of the airline have not been delivered and CASA has concerns about the inadequacy of corporate management, control and supervision.

Communication of safety information within the airline is inadequate or non existent and control of training and checking is lacking.

Solomon Airlines has also been carrying out flights without specific operational approval by CASA.

These unapproved operations require further investigation as there is evidence they are occurring at an aerodrome without adequate navigational equipment for the operations.
