CASA Service Centre extends operations to process applications
The Civil Aviation Safety Authority Service Centre will be open over the coming weekend to accept calls from industry about applications to conduct aviation operations.
CASA's Director of Aviation Safety, Mick Toller, said the national CASA Service Centre would open this Saturday and Sunday between 9.00am and 4.00pm to take calls.
The CASA Service Centre processes applications from general aviation companies for Air Operator Certificates (AOCs) and Certificates of Approval (CofAs).
AOCs are issued to aerial work, charter and regular public transport carriers while CoAs are issued to aviation maintenance organisations.
General aviation operators applying for AOCs or CoAs should call the Service Centre's 13 67 73 hotline (a local call) while high capacity operators are asked to call 041 927 3606.
Mr Toller said the unfortunate cessation overnight of operations by Ansett Airlines and its subsidiaries had placed enormous pressure on Australia's aviation system.
"CASA recognises this pressure and the need to facilitate passengers travel plans," Mr Toller said.
A special task force has been set up within CASA to enable the Authority to fulfil its important role of ensuring that safe, legal but practical solutions are found.
"The top priority for all CASA staff is to process tasks associated with facilitating stranded Ansett passengers. This will be done expeditiously and flexibly."
Public enquiries about airline flight schedules should be directed to Qantas 13 13 13 or Virgin Blue 13 67 89.
