Aviation safety messages delivered to Central Australian pilots
Central Australian and outback pilots will be brought up to speed on the latest in aviation safety when the Civil Aviation Safety Authority takes its air safety "roadshow" to Alice Springs next week.
This series of seminars has been rescheduled. It will now run on Monday 19 November and Tuesday 20 November.
The Alice Springs roadshow is a program of aviation safety workshops and seminars being held as part of CASA's 2001 national aviation safety promotion.
CASA urges all those in commercial and general aviation in and around Alice Springs, and throughout the surrounding regions, to attend as many sessions of the roadshow as possible to update their knowledge and skills.
CASA spokeswoman, Jane Dargaville, says aviation is always changing and pilots need to be constantly refreshed.
"The seminars and workshops present essential new information for pilots of all levels of experience and qualification," Ms Dargaville says.
"For example, the Setting Your Own Standards seminar offers pilots a personal minimums checklist that can help them identify risk factors and set their own standards based on their personal experience."
"Most accidents and incidents in aviation occur because the pilot failed to consider some critical factor during pre-flight planning."
Pilots who attend the seminar will be provided with and guided through an interactive CD-ROM that enables them to create their own checklist.
Other presenters at the roadshow include an aircraft maintenance engineer and an aviation medical expert who will talk about how pilots can deal with disorientation during flight.
The venue for the workshops and seminars is the Alice Springs Resort, 34 Stott Terrace.
All sessions are free although registration is required. Registration can be confirmed by telephone to CASA Aviation Safety Promotion on 131757 or by email to renee.hindson@casa.gov.au
