Townsville Aviation Industry urged to attend Safety Seminar
The latest information in aviation safety will feature at a special seminar presented by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority in Townsville tomorrow night.
Commercial and general aviation pilots in and around Townsville are urged to attend the seminar to update their knowledge and skills.
The Townsville seminar, titled Setting Your Own Standards, is part of a national air safety campaign being run in 2001 by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority.
CASA's Assistant Director, Aviation Safety Promotion, Mike Smith, says the seminar is of vital interest to anyone involved in aviation.
"Most accidents and incidents in aviation occur because the pilot failed to consider some critical factor during pre-flight planning," Mr Smith says.
"The Setting Your Own Standards seminar offers pilots a personal minimums checklist that can help them identify risk factors and set their own standards based on their personal experience.
"Aviation is constantly changing so pilots need to keep to the very forefront with the latest developments."
Pilots who attend the seminar will be guided through an interactive CD-rom provided to them that enables them to create their own checklist.
The seminar will present essential new information for pilots of all levels of experience and qualification.
Aircraft maintenance engineers are also urged to attend the seminar, which is free to participants but requires registration.
An aviation expert from CASA will speak at the seminar, scheduled to take place between 7 pm and 9.30 PM at Jupiter's Hotel and Casino, Sir Leslie Thiess Drive.
Details of the seminar can be viewed on the CASA web site.
