CASA's compliance activities boosted by Budget increase
Mick Toller, Director of Aviation Safety, has welcomed the Federal Government's announcement in last night's 2001-2002 Budget of a $36 million boost in funding for CASA.
The funding increase for CASA will be allocated at $9 million a year over four years.
This will provide funding for an additional 32 jobs in CASA's Aviation Safety Compliance and Regulatory Services divisions to boost CASA's resources to enable it to:
- Increase its surveillance of the major airlines;
- Employ additional resources in regional Australia; and
- Improve its delivery of regulatory services.
A total of 17 positions will be added to CASA's area offices around Australia.
Further, the funding will provide 15 additional positions in CASA's new regulatory service centre in Brisbane to significantly improve the quality and timeliness of business services offered to air operators and maintenance organisations.
"The increase in resources for CASA announced by the Government in last night's Budget represents a substantial and very welcome augmentation to CASA's operating Budget over the four year period," Mr Toller said.
"It means that CASA will be able to more effectively maintain, enhance and promote the safety civil aviation in Australia," Mr Toller said.
The increased Budget allocation also permits CASA to continue the development of its Aviation Safety Regulatory Improvement Program, Mr Toller said.
