Special Flight Safety Forum in Canberra

Pilots and aircraft engineers from the ACT and throughout the southeast region of NSW are urged to participate in a special Flight Safety Forum in Canberra this Saturday.

The forum is aimed at both commercial and general aviation pilots and engineers, presenting the very latest information on flight safety.

The Canberra forum is part of a national air safety campaign being run in 2001 by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority.

Aviation experts from CASA, the Australian Transport Safety Bureau, the Bureau of Meteorology and the aviation industry will speak at the all day forum, which begins at 9 a.m. at the National Convention Centre.

CASA's Assistant Director, Aviation Safety Promotion, Mike Smith, says the forum is of vital interest to all in aviation.

"CASA encourages everyone involved in aviation in and around the ACT to attend the forum, to update their knowledge and skills," Mr Smith says.

"Aviation is constantly changing so pilots need to keep to the very forefront with the latest developments."

The forum, which is free to all participants, presents essential new information for pilots of all levels of experience and qualification.

"They will hear from a flying instructor, an accident investigator, a weather forecaster, a fuel supplier and be briefed on avoiding problems with oil," Mr Smith says.

In addition, an expert in flying at low levels will make a presentation and a commercial airline representative will be available to discuss employment opportunities and recruitment.
