CASA Media Release - Saturday, 10 March 2001
Air Nauru suspension lifted

Air Nauru is operating again following the lifting of a suspension by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority.

CASA grounded Air Nauru on 24 February due to concerns about the management of the airline and poor communications facilities at Nauru airport.

The suspension was lifted after CASA imposed a range of conditions on Air Nauru and received assurances problems at the airport had been rectified.

The conditions limit Air Nauru's operations to flying between Australia and Nauru, Nadi, Pohnpei Island, Tarawa Island and Norfolk Island.

They also require Air Nauru to ensure the Flight Operations Manager does not carry out flying duties and concentrates on operational management.

The airline will employ an experienced Boeing 737 training and checking captain.

CASA will be conducting regular checks on the airline to ensure the conditions are met.

Air Nauru operates a Boeing 737 on the Pacific routes.
