CASA comes to Avalon Air Show

People in the aviation industry are being urged to 'drop in' on CASA when visiting the Avalon air show next week.

CASA's stand will be open right through the airshow week, staffed by a range of CASA people eager to answer questions and talk about flying, maintenance and other aviation issues.

The highlight of CASA's week at the Australian International Airshow will be a special open forum meeting with the CASA Board.

This is a chance for everyone to come along and meet the CASA Board, ask questions and put forward views.

CASA's Board members want to meet as many people as possible and take part in free and open discussions on any aviation issues.

The Board open forum is on Friday 16 February, from 11.00am, in Meeting Room 2.

CASA is also offering a series of free seminars on important safety issues.

The seminars will cover topics such as setting your own safety standards, weather for VFR pilots, maintenance certification and competency training standards.

The seminars will be held on the Wednesday, Thursday and Friday of the airshow week at the conference facilities.

CASA's Assistant Director Aviation Safety Promotion, Mike Smith, says the seminars target vital issues for both pilots and engineers.

"The 'Setting Your Own Standards" session advises pilots on how to develop their own personal minimums checklist to identify their risk factors and set standards based on personal experience," Mr Smith says.

"The 'Weatherwise' seminar introduces pilots to the Australian version of the Weather Wise Interactive CD-ROM.

"This program, developed by the US Federal Aviation Administration and the University of Western Sydney, assists VFR pilots to recognise deteriorating weather conditions."

CASA's stand at the Avalon air show is in Hall A, stand 62.
