Re-Assessment of Examination
Reassessment of Exam Results
With effect from 01 January 2006, candidates wishing to have a flight crew aeronautical knowledge examination result re-assessed may apply directly to CASA Flight Crew Licensing (FCL). The re-assessment carries a scheduled fee of $130. Payment must accompany the application.
Applying to this address fcl.postexam_comments@casa.gov.au may expedite communication. Credit card details and debit authorisation must accompany the re-assessment application.
Alternatively, the request may also be submitted by normal mail with payment by cheque or credit card authorisation.
Do not send any cash by post.
Important note
Training
The re-assessment facility is not a conduit to FCL to obtain tutoring on a subject, details of question and answer, or specific reference pages to read. These matters are training issues, and are the responsibility of the industry. Candidates should seek re-training directly from their ground training school or flight instructor. CASA will not entertain any request for a personal briefing or explanation of the topic by telephone, email or letter.
KDR
To assist in developing a re-training program, CASA provides post examination feedback in the form of a Knowledge-Deficiency-Report (KDR) for all candidates except those who have scored 100%. The KDR for candidates who achieve less than 50% is the entire subject syllabus.
Pre Exam Session Issues
Exam Matters such as venue and examination materials queries should be settled directly with the examination supervisor prior to commencing, or even during the session. Administrative matters will not be taken to constitute reasons for re-assessment of examination results.
Candidates wishing to submit comments or recommendations that are not request for re-assessment may use the facility for Post Exam Comment.
Ambit Claims
As the re-assessment carries a fee, candidates should not use this facility in the hope of obtaining sufficient marks to pass the examination, when they in fact have no reasonable cause to expect an examination to be re-scored in their favour.
Procedures and Conditions
The procedures and conditions applying to a re-assessment are as follows:
- A candidate intending to submit such a re-assessment has to supply the following information and authorisation:
- ARN and name
- Contact telephone number
- Exam type and date of sitting
- Credit card name, number and expiry date, and a signed authorisation for CASA to debit the candidate with $130 for the re-mark.
- The address is: fcl.postexam_comments@casa.gov.au
- CASA will re-assess the examination once payment has been confirmed. CASA will provide a report to the candidate on the following:
- Name and date of examination re-marked
- Number of questions re-marked
- Result of re-mark - whether there has been any change of scoring in any questions
- The final score
- No personalised training debrief will be included in the CASA report.
- The re-mark decision will be final, and CASA will not enter into subsequent correspondence with the candidate.
Candidates may (optionally) add the following to support their application:
- What has been perceived as affecting the correctness of the question or the alternative answers.
- Be as specific and constructive as possible.
- It is accepted that a candidate may not be able to reproduce exactly the question in dispute, but a reasonable or even brief description of it will suffice. The question number is not necessary.
- Comment, with as much details as possible, why the question has been perceived as incorrect, for example:
- Question refers to an out-dated chart - the named waypoint cannot be located on the current chart.
- Wind was not provided, hence the heading could not be determined.
- Or, that a critical item of information was missing, for example:
- The correct answer should be Weight, as in a S+L flight his balances Lift - but the answer 'Weight' was not available.
- Temperature was not provided, hence performance calculation was not possible.
- Avoid vague generalities, for example:
- I think Q5 was ambiguous
- I am not satisfied with CASA answers
- Avoid personal issues, for example:
- An 8:30 a.m. start for the examination session forced me to wake up very early, which was very stressful. This affected my examination performance.
- I had a very stressful drive to the exam venue, which affected my examination performance.
- My instructor did not teach me this so how does CASA expect me to know the answer?
