Dangerous goods contacts
CASA has dedicated compliance and enforcement staff located around Australia. They conduct dangerous goods incident investigations and carry out regular surveillance of freight forwarders, aircraft operators and approved training courses/instructors. They also provide information and present seminars on dangerous goods to interested organisations.
Further information on the carriage or shipping of Dangerous Goods may be obtained by contacting a Dangerous Goods Inspector, your airline or any of the air cargo agents (freight forwarders) listed in your local yellow pages. There are a number of dangerous goods specialist organisations in Australia who can assist with the carrage of dangerous goods.

Australian Dangerous Goods Air Transport Council (ADGAT)
The Australian Dangerous Goods Air Transport Council is a multi-organisational body comprising of representatives of the major and regional airlines from Australia and New Zealand, dangerous goods training organisations, domestic and international freight forwards, Australia Post, packaging manufacturers and CASA.
The council's objectives are:
- To work for the promotion of, and compliance with regulatory standard for the carriage of dangerous goods by air, so as to maintain the highest possible level of safety in air transport.
- To provide a forum for members to express their views in the presence of the regulatory authorities and to raise questions on dangerous goods procedural and policy matters.
- To make recommendations to CASA or other appropriate authorities on policy or legislative matters relating to the carriage by air.
- To discuss and reach consensus and solutions to problems relating to the air transport of dangerous goods.
- To distribute dangerous goods related information from any source to the industry through Council members and promote public awareness of the air safety issues involved in dangerous goods carriage by air.
ADGAT meets on a quarterly basis, usually alternating between Sydney and Melbourne and frequently including a regional location such as Brisbane, Darwin or Canberra. Meetings are occasionally held in conjunction with major aviation events such as air shows, exhibitions and the IATA Dangerous Goods Board or ICAO Dangerous Goods Panel meetings when convened in Australia. Occasionally, ADGAT holds symposiums on managing the risks of transporting dangerous goods by air.
