The Safety Oversight Branch is responsible for the overall management of entry control and safety surveillance, allocation of operational resources, analysis of safety data, putting in place strategic intervention strategies and encouraging a greater acceptance by industry of its obligations to maintain high safety standards.
The Safety Oversight Branch is situated in the CASA Operations building, Brisbane Airport.
The branch works closely with the CASA Service Centre (CSC) – a one-stop location for processing of Air Operator Certificate (AOC) and Certificate of Approval (COA) services for General Aviation.
Functions of the Safety Oversight Branch include:
Oversight management
- Overall management of entry control & safety surveillance
- Set and maintain oversight policy & procedures
- High level allocation of operational resources on a national basis
- Identification of staff technical training requirements
- Coordination of oversight resources
- System safety support, including training & mentoring of inspectorate staff
- Review and set baseline standards for managing existing & new certificates
- Sport aviation enquiries
- Safety oversight of self-administering bodies
