How do I update the personal details on my ARN?
It is important to keep your contact details up to date so that when CASA needs to contact you we have your current details. This avoids licences, certificates and registrations being sent to the wrong address and causing you problems. It is a legislative requirement to notify change in contact details for security background checks and if you have an aircraft registration.
You can update your personal details in several different ways:
- Through the CASA Self Service Portal. You can update all your personal contact details. If you do not have a Self Service Account set one up here.
- Use the online update form.
- Write a letter and mail to CLARC, CASA, GPO Box 2005, Canberra ACT 2601.
- Send a facsimile to 1300 737 187 (+61 2 6217 1899 if faxing from outside of Australia)
- Send an email to clarc@casa.gov.au
Please ensure you provide your full name and quote your ARN. All new contact details should be provided, including residential and postal address; work, home and mobile phone numbers; fax number; email address; any other details that may require updating
To change your name, date of birth, or your nationality, a written request must be submitted with accompanying documentation. If your medical certificate, licence and/or ASIC or AVID needs to be re-issued due to a change in name, this will attract a fee.
What is an ARN and why do I need one?
An ARN is an Aviation Reference Number. It is similar to an account number or customer number and it should be quoted whenever you call CASA. It is your own unique identifier. If you hold a licence or permission you will find in most cases that the number on the licence or permission is the ARN belonging to the entity that holds that licence or permission.
How do I apply for an ARN?
If you don’t have an ARN, you need to complete an application form (Form 1162). You should forward the form, together with a clear and legible copy of one piece of identification to CLARC. You can forward these papers by mail to CLARC, CASA, GPO Box 2005, Canberra ACT 2601, by fax to 1 300 737 187 (+61 2 6217 1899 if faxing from outside of Australia) or by scanning and emailing as a jpeg file to clarc@casa.gov.au
If you are applying for a student pilot licence, you can obtain your ARN by using the SPL and security check application form 639 instead of using form 1162.
Note – you need to have an ARN before you visit a DAME for a medical examination.
What identification do I need to supply with my ARN application?
Acceptable forms of identification are birth certificates (full or extract), passport identification pages or Australian Citizenship Certificates. The identification supplied must be in English, be clear and legible. It is not necessary to supply certified copies of identification. Please note that a driver's licence is not acceptable.
