DAMEs Must Not Issue Tear-Off Temporary Medical Certificates

Just a reminder to those who missed this item in the February Newsletter, please DO NOT issue the tear-off Temporary Medical Certificates from the Original Medical Form.

We are still receiving a few Original medical reports indicating the applicant has been given a "Tear Off Temporary Medical Certificate". If you have any queries regarding this please contact your DAME liaison officer (Tara or Netty).

Distribution

This newsletter is distributed to all DAMEs/DAOs/DAEEs. You should read and digest the contents of this Newsletter, retain it for future reference, and make relevant sections of it available to your staff who have dealings with CASA or are involved in aviation medical certification.

MRS Online - Project Manager's Report

The MRS Online Pilot has been running since February 2004. There are now 35 DAMEs with access to the online system in Production, including 2 international DAMEs and one DAO. 430 medicals have been submitted since the start of the Pilot.

DAMEs have not encountered major issues with the use of the system, however some have reported:

  • Instances where the system has shut down unexpectedly, particularly when the system is used after a period of inactivity
  • For international DAMEs, the I-Key clashes with the UK medical records system

In the next version of the system we will be including:

  • A much shorter applicant declaration form
  • The capacity to conduct medical examinations using MRS Online, even if you have not been able to connect to CASA to download the tailored medical for the applicant before hand.
  • The capacity to look at previous medical records for an applicant.

I would strongly encourage all DAMEs who have not yet done so, to obtain their I-Key from the Health e-Signature Authority. DAMEs who would like to start using the online system can contact me at elenore.karpfen@casa.gov.au or phone 131 757 and ask for extension 1354.

Administrative Matters

Applications for Re-appointment

CASA has processed approximately 530 applications for reappointment under the new Civil Aviation Safety Regulations. There are 88 applications yet to be submitted. The DAME liaison team is working hard to complete the task as soon as possible.

If you have not made your application for reappointment, please do so without delay. Contact your liaison officer (Netty or Tara) if you have any questions about your reappointment.

If you have decided not to be reappointed, you are still obligated to notify your liaison officer of your resignation in writing and return your DAME/DAO stamp.

Applicants need to have an ARN for MRS-Online

Aviation Reference Numbers (ARN) and the applicant's date of birth will be required in order to download a medical examination from MRS-Online.

We recommend you put in place a procedure that ensures applicants are notified of this requirement prior to attending the examination. Please refer your applicants to their flying school and the following website address for the application form and details on how to submit the form and, if appropriate, apply for a student pilot licence.
