Antidepressant study
For over 10 years CASA has been issuing medical certificates to pilots and air traffic controllers who use antidepressant medication. CASA adopted this policy as a positive safety initiative and it has enabled many pilots and air traffic controllers to continue operating in a properly managed way. The findings of a validation study, which was carried out in 2004, shows the policy is appropriate and there are no safety concerns relating to the practice. Indeed, the report suggests there might well be safety benefits in applying the policy. The final report is now available.
