Designated Aviation Ophthalmologists (DAOs) and Designated Aviation Eye Examiners (DAEEs)
Designated Aviation Ophthalmologists (DAOs) and Designated Aviation Eye Examiners (DAEEs) are equally acceptable to CASA for the purpose of routine visual assessments required for medical certification. DAOs are medical practitioners who have specialist qualifications in ophthalmology acceptable to CASA. DAEEs are highly qualified and experienced optometrists who have particular knowledge of aviation ophthalmology.
For routine assessments, in the absence of a clinical condition such as refractive error, HIC rebates will not be available for assessments by either DAOs or DAEEs. Where an assessment is necessary on clinical grounds, the usual eligibility for benefits should apply.
