Part 99 Regulations - Alcohol and Drug use
New Part 99 Regulations governing Alcohol and Drug use in aviation have now come into effect.
The new regulations give aviation organisations, such as flying training providers, airlines and maintenance companies, six months to put in place detailed drug and alcohol management plans, including:
- pre-employment testing
- reasonable suspicion testing
- post-accident testing, and
- education, training and rehabilitation.
They also provide for CASA to conduct random drug and alcohol screening on those who perform safety sensitive aviation activities.
The regulations are available at www.casa.gov.au/rules/1998casr/099/index.htm
The Notice of Final Regulation Making (NFRM), including guidance material, can be found at www.casa.gov.au/newrules/parts/099/NFRM0703SS.asp
Additionally, CASA is currently conducting a series of education workshops in a number of locations, to provide information to industry stakeholders on their obligations and requirements under the regulations.
A list of the available workshops can be found at www.aod.casa.gov.au/aod/resources/EventCalendar.aspx
The workshops are open to all organisations that require additional information regarding the regulations. Attendance is free and no RSVP is required.
