Flow on endorsements

Special Design Feature Endorsements

Example 1

Pilot has a "Single Engine Aeroplanes Not Exceeding 5,700 KG Maximum Take-Off Weight" class endorsement and a "Tail Wheel Undercarriage" special design feature endorsement.   The pilot undergoes training and checking on a Beech Duchess.   Since the pilot does not have "Manual Propeller Pitch Control" or "Retractable Undercarriage" endorsements, these must be covered in the training and assessment.   The pilot is issued with a BE-76 endorsement.

The delegate should enter in the pilot's logbook the Duchess type endorsement (enter BE-76 on the logbook sticky label) and either add onto that logbook entry the two special design feature endorsements or enter separate logbook entries for each of the endorsements.

Example 2

Pilot is issued with a Metro 3 or BE350 type endorsement.

The delegate should ensure the pilot has the following special design feature endorsements in their logbook once the type endorsement has been issued:

  • Manual Propeller Pitch Control
  • Retractable Undercarriage
  • Pressurisation System

Extended Effect of Certain Endorsements

Reference:   CAO 40.1.0 – Appendix VI

There are number of cases where a type endorsement covers an additional type endorsement or class endorsement.

Example

Pilot obtains an endorsement on any of the Beechcraft Queen Air models.   The delegate enters into the pilot's logbook the B65 endorsement.

CAO states that a person who holds the B65 class endorsement is entitled to fly the TWIN BONANZA.   It is not necessary to add the TWIN BONANZA endorsement in the logbook because this is covered by the Order.

Please remember that only a person who holds a delegation under CAR 5.23(2) may issue an aircraft endorsement.
