Part XI - Tactical Fire Fighting


11.1.1 Subject to the condition that the operator and flight crew must comply with the following flight and duty limits, this instrument exempts flight crew engaged in day VFR tactical fire fighting operations from the flight and duty time limitations in Part 48 of the Civil Aviation Orders.

11.2 Limits on Duty Time

11.2.1 Flight crew engaged in tactical fire fighting operations shall not commence a tour of duty, and an operator shall not roster flight crew for such a tour of duty, unless, immediately prior to commecing the tour of duty, the flight crew member has been relieved from all duty for one continuous period of no less than 10 hours.

11.3 Limits on Flight Time

11.3.1 When engaged in day VFR tactical fire fighting:

(a) Flight crew shall not fly and an operator shall not require flight crew to fly in excess of 1,000 hours in 365 consecutive days;

(b) Flight crew shall not fly and an operator shall not require flight crew to fly in excess of 120 hours in 30 consecutive days;

(c) Flight crew shall not fly and an operator shall not require flight crew to fly in excess of 40 hours in 7 consecutive days; and

(d) Flight crew shall not fly and an operator shall not require flight crew to fly in excess of 10 hours in 24 consecutive hours.

11.4 Time Free of Duty

11.4.1 When engaged in day VFR tactical fire fighting, flight crew shall have one continuous period free from all duties of at least 36 hours in any seven consecutive days.
