AME Licences and Airworthiness Authorities

As of 1st July 2007 all AME applications must include payment form 053.
Due to fees changes within CASA some forms have payment details attached that are incorrect at this time but will be amended in the near future.

The previous term “in house mechanical and avionic category” will no longer be used for the assessment process for an application for a rating in an initial category application. The fee for an initial rating in one of the five categories (Engine, Airframe, Electrical, Instrument and Radio) will be charged at $390.00 for each new category where that category is the only category applied for at that time. Where an applicant applies for an additional category at the same time, the assessment fee is reduced. Please refer to the tables below for some examples of how the charges will be applied.

The assessment of an additional group 20 airframe rating or group 21 engine rating will be charged at a higher rate for the assessment of that rating. This increase in charges is to more accurately reflect the time taken to assess these types of ratings. The assessment of lower group and group 20 Electrical, instrument or radio will be charged as before. Please refer to the tables below for some examples of how the charges will be applied.

Examples

Initial Issue of an AME Licence

1. Applicant is applying for 2 Airframe ratings and 1 Engine rating– all based on practical experience recorded in an SOE.

2. Applicant applies for 6 ratings based on overseas licences (including NZ AME Licences under the TTMRA) or based on Australian Defence Force qualifications.

Additional Ratings to an AME Licence

3. Applicant already holds 3 ratings in a category (either of Airframe, Engine, Instrument, Electrical or Radio) and is applying for 1 additional rating in a category already held, based on an SOE. Apart from groups 20,21 and 22 in the Engine and Airframe category fees IAW 2.9a

4. Applicant applies for an initial group 20 Electrical rating (i.e. Boeing 737 NG) and at the same time applies for an additional group 20 electrical rating (i.e. Boeing 747) based on an SOE.

5. Applicant applies for an initial group 20 Airframe rating (i.e. Boeing 737 NG) and an initial group 21 engine rating (i.e. RB211) and at the same time applies for an additional group 20 Airframe rating (i.e. Boeing 747) based on an SOE.

6. Applicant already holds an Australian AME Licence and is applying for an additional rating/s based on an overseas licence (including NZ AME Licences under the TTMRA) or based on Australian Defence Force qualifications.

7. Applicant already holds an AME Licence and is applying for additional rating/s based on PCT or Accelerated Training.

Renewal and Re-Issue of Expired or Replacement Licences

8. Applicant applies for the renewal of an AME Licence prior to expiry.

Note: If the final cost of the service is greater than the estimate, then an invoice will be issued to recover the remaining balance due.

Note: If at the time of applying to have their licence renewed an applicant applies for additional ratings, the appropriate additional ratings fees will also apply and will need to be paid at the time of application.

9. Applicant applies to have their expired licence re-issued – regardless of the length of time since the licence has expired.

Change of Address and Re-Issue of Licence

10. Applicant writes to CASA advising of new address details and if a new licence is requested with updated address then 2.7 applies.

Variation of an AME Licence

11. Applicant applies for/requests that a rating that was previously held on their AME Licence be re-issued back onto their AME Licence, eg. an aircraft that has been re- registered back onto the Australian Register.

CTC Assessments for Overseas Licence Holders and ADF Personnel

12. At the time of application for assessment of an applicant’s overseas licence or of their practical experience with the Australian Defence Forces with a view to use this assessment as a basis to apply for an initial issue of an AME Licence at some time in the future.

No charge at time of assessment.

However, at the successful completion of the CTC Examinations ($100.00 per category) and the AA Examination ($100.00), an applicant may apply for the initial issue of an AME Licence based on their CTC Assessment and pay the follow fees.

If an applicant has applied for and paid for a CTC Assessment prior to 1 July 2007, then under the transition to new fees guidelines the applicant is not required to pay any further new fees upon applying for an initial AME Licence.
