Australian Defence Force Personnel
CASA has a close association with the Australian Defence Force (ADF). CASA regards aircraft maintenance training and practical maintenance experience gained in the ADF as similar to that gained in civil aviation.
When CASA receives an application from serving or ex-serving defence personnel, CASA assesses the applicant's aircraft maintenance training and experience against the civilian licensing requirements to:
- determine whether the applicant holds a rank sufficient to certify maintenance
on military aircraft.
(Because the ADF does not control the certification of aircraft maintenance via a licensing system, rank becomes the criterion for assessing seniority and responsibility) - determine the actual aircraft maintenance experience the applicant has.
For information regarding recognition of your Australian Military qualifications refer to the LTA/CTC Guide.
What if I have overseas military qualifications?
CASA does not recognise overseas military qualifications for the purposes of granting an Australian AME licence. However, overseas military aircraft maintenance experience may count towards the requirements for aircraft Category experience, if supported by fully documented records of the experience that CASA can have authenticated.
