Aviation Safety Advisors

Meet CASA’s Aviation Safety Advisors
Tim Penney

I have been involved in the aviation industry in both a professional and private capacity for some 22 years. After learning to fly I completed an Instructor Rating at Moorabbin Airport in Victoria where I worked as a flying and theory instructor.

Following time in the Australian Army I worked for 5 years in the Victorian Government attracting investment into Victoria's aviation sector and working on a diverse range of aviation and airport related projects. I then worked briefly with Ansett/Air New Zealand at their Flight Simulator Centre in Tullamarine in another investment attraction role before undertaking private consulting work in airport infrastructure planning and business development to both State Government and private industry.

Prior to joining joining CASA, I worked for 5 years as the Air Safety Representative for Embraer Aircraft in Australia, the South Pacific, SE Asia and India. I had safety oversight and accident investigation responsibilities on behalf of Embraer for all turboprop and jet customers in this region. During that time I completed Air Accident Investigation training at the University of Southern California.

I hold, or have held at various times throughout my career a Commercial Pilots licence for both fixed and rotary wing, a multi-engine command instrument rating and instructor rating. I have a passion for air safety and sharing that with the Australian aviation industry.
